The Wilderness Lodge, Seward, Alaska
The remote outpost on Fox Island is an hour boat ride from civilization — and the island is all yours. The steep summits, forested coves, and sheer ocean cliffs of the island require good hiking gear and a healthy sense of self-preservation. After a day of exploring the island on foot or sea kayak, the on-site chef will prepare a gourmet meal for you with local seafood and other Alaskan ingredients.
There are eight cabins on the island that can accommodate up to thirty-two people total. Each one backs up to a large freshwater pond that is typically swarming with eagles. You can hop onto the daily Kenai Fjords Tour boat that stops at the island and spend the day viewing Orcas, sea lions, seals, and glaciers at nearby Kenai Fjords National Park before heading back to a night of solitude on the island. The island is seasonal and open from late May to early September.
