Houston doesn’t always get the attention it deserves in the ‘cue world, but the residents of the fourth largest U.S. city have unleashed a wave of new and transformed barbecue joints in the last decade. You can expect the local East Texas style, similar to what you’ll find across the South with chopped, not sliced, meat and glazed ribs. You can get a taste at Triple J’s Smokehouse in the Houston Gardens neighborhood.

Pizzitola’s in Memorial Park offers award-winning Central Texas BBQ, also called Hill Country, smoked over a pit that’s more than 70 years old. There you’ll find ribs, brisket, deboned chicken, and banana pudding — if you still have room. You can even find cowboy BBQ, the West Texas variation, at Goode Company’s three restaurants across Houston. While they also serve Hill County smoked brisket, they follow the West Texas tradition of cooking over mesquite wood. The aromatic tree infuses the meat with a subtle but distinct savory spice.

Should your taste for barbecue turn for something out of state, there’s phenomenal Tennessee-style (hickory smoke and vinegar sauces) at Fainmous and the excellent Gatlin’s, which combines several barbecue styles, including St. Louis ribs. Of course, these are just a few of the great stops around Houston — locals will also demand you hit the Brisket House and Ray’s Real Pit BBQ Shack. Thankfully, the contest winner will also get a curated restaurant guide to fit their tastes.

The sweepstakes ends on January 15, 2016. Open to legal residents of the forty nine (49) United States and the District of Columbia (void in Rhode Island) who are 21 years or older. No purchase necessary to enter or win. Void where prohibited.  Sponsored by TDT Media, Inc. For complete official rules, please visit the sponsor’s website by clicking here
