PS5 Pro Announced with Price and Release Date Reveal
Sony has finally announced the PS5 Pro to the world, and you won't have to wait long to get your hands on it. The upgraded console will be released on November 7, 2024, and pre-orders begin on September 26, 2024. While the console's coming soon, its price may deter interested gamers. The new console was announced by Mark Cerny, lead architect of the PS4 and PS5, at the PlayStation Technical Presentation.
Physically, the PS5 Pro looks similar to the original PlayStation 5, though now sporting three horizontal stripes on the sides, which was leaked earlier by Sony itself. Like the original console, it will also rest itself on a stand.
PS5 Pro Editions and Price
Unlike the PS4 Pro, which replaced the original PS4 for $399 at launch, the PS5 Pro comes at a premium. The PS5 Pro will be released in just one edition, and it will cost $699 USD. Those who want to use their disks will need to use the attachable disk drive separately.
PS5 Pro Specs
The PS5 Pro's specs and features leaked months ago, so there's not much surprise here in that department. The console will feature a significant improvement in its GPU and a 10% boost to its CPU over the original. Of course, the real star of the show will be the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, or PSSR, which will upscale and reconstruct frames from a lower resolution up to 4K. The PlayStation blog also revealed that the console will support 8K gaming with VRR, and it comes with WiFi 7.
This should mean significantly better image quality and performance for games running on PS5, which already beat those running on Xbox. Here's a look at the PS5 Pro's official specs:
